My father and my uncle have both been in the business. I saw how passionate they were about it and since I grew up around it, my knowledge and understanding of the industry helped to fuel my passion..."MMN: Who is Drake ? D: I’m 21 years old. I was born on October, 24, 1986 in Toronto Canada. My father is black and my mother is Jewish. MMN: Did you pursue acting or music first ? D: I pursued acting first. I started doing print work and then commercials. After that I began doing some guest spots on shows and then Degrassi. I’ve always had a strong background in music though. MMN: On Degrassi, you have had the chance to showcase your rapping talent-What was it like being able to mix both of your talents simultaneously? D: I loved it! Music and acting are the only two things in life that I can commit to 100%. To be able to do both of them at the same time was a dream come true because it lets my passion for one come out in my passion for the other. MMN: Tell us about "Come back Season" and what inspired the album? D: Comeback Season came out on October 31, 2007. It’s doing really well and I’ve had an amazing response to it. When I first went into the studio I was just looking to step my game up and come with something a little different. Come back Season was that project I had to do. The inspiration for this album came from me wanting to bring a new perspective to the game, wanting to show my diversity as an artist and also since my last mixtape room for improvement I evolved as an artist and felt like it was my comeback season. MMN: What or who inspired you to get into music? D: I come from a very musical background. My father and my uncle have both been in the business. I saw how passionate they were about it and since I grew up around it, my knowledge and understanding of the industry helped to fuel my passion.  MMN: How are you able to separate yourself and your music from the show?D: I don’t get to much flak from anyone one the degrassi side of things. I’m pretty free to pursue what makes me happy. I use my middle name Drake to help distinguish me from Aubrey Graham the actor who plays Jimmy on Degrassi. That helps separate the two and it also allows listeners to give me a far shot and not just write my music off. MMN: What can we expect from you in the next season? D: I’m currently in the studio now working on the new album. I’m keeping everything very hush hush until the time is right. I want the fans to be surprised about the things that I’m doing and the creative expression that’s going into the album. MMN: What are your goals for your music career? D: My goals are to change the game, diverse the game and keep making good music. MMN: What do you enjoy doing on your spare time? D: I like hanging out with my family and friends, watching movies or playing a game of pool. I’m a real laid back kind of guy. MMN: Lastly, for all of your admiring fans-Are you currently a bachelor? D: Yes I am |
